my guilty pleasure: cheesy celebrity gossip magazines.

in the march 20, 2006 issue of in touch, i found this small article, and i almost died.

john travolta is polishing up his dancing shoes - and theyre high heels! travolta is starring in the film adaptation of the hit musical 'hairspray' as downtrodden housewife edna turnblad, famously played by divine in the original film and harvey fierstein on broadway.

any thoughts or comments?

I don't really know what to expect with Travolta. I'm hoping that he'll do a good job.

Queen Latifah was also cast as Motormouth Maybelle. Now that was an ingenious casting decision.

John Travolta is my absolute favorite actor of all time. But why in hell would they cast him as Edna Turnblad?!?!?! Last I check Harvey was still alive and performing, not to mention still had a Tony for playing Edna on Broadway. Why the hell not put him in the movie? What the hell?! It's going to be ridiculous, long live Divine.

I agree that casting Queen Latifah was brilliant, they couldn't do any better. Any idea who's playing Tracey?

I don't care for the casting decision, but I know for a fact that John Waters thinks it will be hilarious to see him dance around in drag. That's when I first heard about it, at a lecture he gave at UAB a little over a week ago. I'm still coming to terms with it.
